Three Alternatives to Dental Implants You May Want to Consider

A diagram of how a dental implant works.Have you lost some teeth as a result of decay, gum disease, or trauma? If so, you may be happy to know that there are better options out there than dentures.

Dental implants are a great alternative, but if you are looking for additional methods, there are three options that you and your dentist can explore.

Teeth in a Day

Sometimes referred to as same day implants, teeth in a day allows the placement of a crown at the same appointment as your dental implant placement. This allows you to go on about work and life while the implant fuses to your bone.

Then, the permanent crown will be placed, usually 3-6 months later. This procedure is best suited for people who have enough remaining bone as well as an implant that is strong enough to support the initial placement.

All-on-4

The All-on-4 approach places a full arch of fixed, replacement teeth into the mouth. It uses four implants to stabilize the replacement teeth and places them into available bone, which could avoid the need for bone grafting.

A special abutment will allow for a temporary set of replacement teeth in order to place them the same day. You'll need to use a modified diet during healing of the gums so that the implants have the chance to integrate with the bone.

Mini Implants

Often referred to as MDIs, mini implants are smaller than the commonly used dental implants. They are placed via less-invasive methods and are less than three millimeters in diameter. They can be used to secure a complete set of dentures in patients who might not be a candidate for traditional dentures.

If you are in need of a restorative option to help with your tooth loss, there are several methods to choose from. Please contact us if you have questions about what you can do to improve the function and appearance of your smile.
